Skydog takes off at Maryland International Kite Expo!
May 9th, 2012For about 20 years now I've been attending the spring kite festival in Ocean City that has developed into the Maryland International Kite Exposition.
It's a great kickoff to the season at the beach and the Kite Loft hosts a wonderful event featuring kite flying demonstrations, sport kite lessons, and competitions, music on the boardwalk in front of the store, great hospitality and kites, kites, kites!!!
This year the wind cooperated well enough and the skies at times were filled with all sorts of shapes and sizes of kites.
Jim Christianson, the Alpha Dog came down and joined me for the festivities to fly the new big dog series kites and give stunt kite lessons. I know he and his family loves to be there.
I did a little bit of everything from fly Skydog Demo's, talking on the mic about the event, giving lessons to new buyers and interested participants to competing (and taking 1st place!)
I love my Maryland events and this one has much sentimental value.
I was the first competitor of the first event on the first day of the first ever Mid Atlantic Stunt Kite Competition back in 1990. i guess I'm showing my age.
Well, flying kites does not make me feel old and Skydog continues to keep me young at heart!
Thanks to the Kite Loft for another great M.I.K.E. I'm headed back this summer!!
Flying Smiles Kites lets those "puppies fly"!!
April 11th, 2012What a Big day we had down at the Whalehead Club in Corolla, NC celebrating Spring Break and the start of the kite season.
Flying Smiles Kites hosted their first Spring Fun Fly there and we brought out many Skydog kites to fly and enjoy throughout the day. Including the Big Dog Series kites. The 24 foot Dragon was the hit of the day!!
There was a nice little sound system set up and we had kitemaking for the kids and several hundred people came by and joined in the fun.
The day started out with perfect wind and as the day progressed, so did the velocity of the wind! By mid afternoon we were experiencing some pretty severe gusts and indeed had to do some kite rescues from hungry trees but in the end all kites were saved and sent safely home with there owners.
The shop had a good day too! Plenty of early season traffic to get things started.
I look forward to heading down again in the near future. Perhaps to join in on one of the weekly Tuesday evening fun flys.
Thanks Cath and Eliot for the hospitality and support!
